What is the Best Book on Speed Reading?
I have been critical in the past of Tony Buzan’s Speed Reading book; and unfortunately, I haven’t really gotten around to reviewing many more books on the subject, since work has been rather hectic for me lately. However, without a good review of a book on our site, many visitors are asking me what they think the best book on speed reading is.
Best Book on Speed Reading
I will happily tell you that I started speed reading with a book called “Breakthrough Rapid Reading” by Peter Kump, which was released some time in the late 1990’s. At the time, I thought it was exceptional, but it doesn’t cover as much as I thought it had when I first started reading it. I recall having gone to a number of seminars on the subject and thinking that they were much more detailed and in-depth there than they Kump had been, but then again, it has been a long time since I read this particular guide, so I may be mistaken.
I was given a review copy of the book “Triple Your Reading Speed” by Wade Cutler, but I think that this is probably the farthest thing from the best book on speed reading that I’ve yet read. Buzan’s book was pretty primitive, but this guide was fluffy and full of techniques that will probably do you more harm than good if you follow them.
In my opinion, the best book on speed reading is not really a book at all. Use software. It can give you an accurate test of how quickly you actually read. If you get Speed Reader X, it actually comes with lessons built-in that will teach you the techniques as you go along.
